The Socorro Independent School District celebrated the unveiling of the $59 million SAC II complex with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
This project, part of the 2017 bond approved by the community, includes the construction of the new facility and renovations to nearby schools.
The addition of a second field next to the original SAC eliminates the need for doubleheaders on Friday nights during football season, allowing student-athletes to complete their school day, avoid the summer heat, and enable parents to attend competitions after work.
However, the complex offers more than just athletic opportunities. It will also provide hands-on experiences for students outside of sports.
“Our CTE students will manage the audio and visuals for the events,” said Interim SISD Superintendent James Vasquez. “Our law enforcement will be involved in the emergency operations at the games, giving students real-world experience. This truly benefits all of our students.” The facility also includes a band storage room, a repair area, conference rooms, and a trainer’s room.
The facility was built by our team at Banes General Contractor, a highly regarded firm recognized for its commitment to quality and excellence in construction throughout the region. The field will hosted its first event during the 2024-2025 school year, featuring the Socorro vs. Horizon homecoming game on August 30th.
